Summary: Heroes are perfect, fearless, and always happy. That's what they're expected to be, so that's what they are, right? Wrong. But shows and story's never show the fear, guilt, and the pain that heroes suffer through. They never show, what lies beneath the skin.

	1. Strength of a Dragon

**Ok, so this is a quick poetry-fic to defeat writer's block. I am not neglecting my other story, and I'm planning on updating within the next two days so...**

**R&R and enjoy!****Wolf out...**

**DISCLAIMER: I don't own any of the characters from U.S.M, only the original poems**

><p><strong>Iron Fist<strong>

He watches the flame.

The flame that makes him.

And thinks of them.

With pain that breaks him.

And time seems to pause.

Time that means nothing.

Compared to the pain.

Red and crushing.

But without their leaving.

How could he gain?

Without their passing.

This gifted flame.

And he'll use their gift.

To have evil diminished.

He'll be brave for them now.

The flame is extinguished.

And he puts on a smile.

Yellow mask fastened.

And he finds the strength.

The strength of a dragon.

	2. This Time, He'd Protect Them

**Powerman**

He wanted revenge.

His soul had been blackened.

He witnessed great deaths.

With dark eyes saddened.

And for a time.

A time nearly forgotten.

All he could see was the dark.

Focused on evil, fermented and rotten.

But then he met him.

And he understood.

And an unlikely friendship.

Formed where they stood.

He had wanted a family.

And this time he swore.

That he would protect them.

Forevermore.

	3. Great Stakes and Expectations

**Spiderman**

He had not, every answer.

He never had known.

Yet he was expected to.

He was alone.

Why couldn't they see.

How hard he was trying.

But to all, his best.

Was unsatisfying.

What was wrong and what wasn't?

The question was deathless.

For choosing to help.

He was the menace.

Yet he'd fight, in remembering.

His greatest mistake.

For with great power.

Can come great stakes.

	4. The Tiger Within

**White Tiger**

Pulsing, and beating.

At her side.

Always, the danger.

Lurked in her mind.

She hid it from others.

Her terror and shame.

Afraid of herself.

And the nightmares that came.

If she were to lose it.

To abandon control.

Imaginable guilt.

Would tear at her soul.

Always her mind.

Was riddled with "ifs."

If her human side.

Fell down a dark abyss.

She had to be perfect.

Protect her kin.

Yet always be weary.

Of the tiger within.

	5. What He Thought

**Nova**

He thought they didn't care.

That they thought he was a joke.

And as tears ran down his face.

The guilt made him choke.

If he was nicer maybe.

If he were not who he was.

And if not for every problem.

Was he the cause.

Then they would like him.

And they'd let him lead.

But how many years.

Might this change need.

That's what he thought.

Thought at first.

But when they showed him their love.

His heart almost burst.

They cared.

And in vain, he'd been sad.

For they cared so much more.

Than all else had.

	6. Survivors, Not Heroes

**Whole Team**

He watched the flame, and thought of them.

He wanted revenge, yet swore to protect.

He was expected, to do many things.

She was afraid, of the Tiger within.

And all He wanted, was love and care.

When the world, seemed so bare.

And they fought through it all.

Through pain and sadness.

And barely avoided.

Being flung into madness.

They knew that a hero.

Was not allowed relief.

So they fought for us all.

Through shame and grief.

And when they looked.

Reflected in mirrors.

What they saw.

Were survivors, not heroes.

End file.
